About The VOiceSign System

The Sign Language System

VoiceSign is a comprehensive sign language system explicitly designed for people who can hear, including those who are nonverbal or have difficulty speaking. Unlike systems developed for the Deaf community, such as American Sign Language (ASL), which has its own unique grammar and sentence structure, VoiceSign is directly based on spoken English. It enables hearing individuals to “speak with their hands” in a way that reflects the language they hear and think in.

How it Works

1. One Word, One Sign: VoiceSign follows a simple rule—each English word is represented by one unique sign. This eliminates ambiguity and creates a consistent, easy-to-learn system.

2. Word Building Mirrors English: Just like English, VoiceSign builds new words by combining base signs with affixes. For example, the suffix -ing can be added to the base sign read to create reading. This allows learners to master a small number of core signs and affixes, then combine them to form thousands of words naturally.

3. Voice and Sign Together: VoiceSign encourages users to speak while signing, which aligns with natural tendencies for hearing individuals. (Fun fact: if someone is talking while signing, they’re not using ASL.) Speaking while signing can also help individuals who have difficulty with speech develop word approximations and improve vocal expression.

VoiceSign is For Anyone

VoiceSign is for anyone who wants to express English with their hands. It was developed especially for hearing individuals who struggle with speech—offering a complete, expressive alternative to spoken language that mirrors the English one hears every day.
